The ECU staff is fairly young but it’s head coach is facing some heat heading into this game. Here is a quick look at the head coach and coordinators for ECU.

Head Coach Scottie Montgomery – Montgomery is in his third year after taking over in 2015. Montgomery is facing some early head this year after two straight 3-9 seasons after a lot of success under Ruffin McNeil who was fired. Montgomery came to ECU out of Duke where he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for two seasons (successful ones at that). Before Montgomery took a job at Duke, he was an assistant on the Pittsburgh Steelers staff, so he has a lot of experience despite his young age. I mention the heat because the team had a few good years under McNeil before ECU made the change and its been two losing seasons since the move.

Offensive coordinator Tony Peterson – Peterson is in his third season as the coordinator after spending the 2014 and 2015 seasons at Louisiana Tech where he put together a very successful spread offense that will use a lot of various formations. Before his tenure at Louisiana Tech, he was the coordinator at Marshall and brings 27 years to the sidelines, but the question is does he have the players to field his offense and can he succeed and get the offense going in this game.

Defensive coordinator David Blackwell – Blackwell is in his second year after coming over form Jacksonville State where he was the FCS defensive coordinator in both 2014 and 2015. He built a reputation as being a great coordinator using a lot of various formation to get after the quarterback and coaches up a strong secondary. Blackwell is also a former players after being part of the 2005 team. Will his defense be ready for a wild evening at RJS?
