Duke Stunkel and the Bulls must be ready for this tough mid-week game.

The Bulls, 34-10 (9-6 in the AAC and 28-6 at home) are set to take on FGCU, 31-16 (9-9 away) in a mid-week game (game begins at 6:30 PM). FGCU beat USF back on March 22nd in a 2 to 1 game on the road, so the Bulls will be looking for some revenge in this game.

USF is batting .303 as a team entering this game and has a staff ERA of 2.78 with a .214 average against them. The Bulls, now ranked 24th in the country, is ready for this game but FGCU is going to be a really tough out in this mid-week battle. Here are some key players to watch, starting on offense:

Julio Gonzalez – Junior – Short stop – Gonzalez is batting .346 on the year with 12 doubles, 4 triples, 3 home runs with 34 RBIs and has scored 31 runs. He was 0 for 4 in the first meeting earlier this year.

Gage Morey – Redshirt junior – Outfielder – Morey is batting .312 with 18 RBIs, 9 for 12 in steal attempts and has scored 28 runs. He was 2 for 4 with a strike out and stole a base in the first game.

Nick Rivera – Redshirt senior – 1st baseman/DH – Rivera is batting .298 with 6 doubles, 12 home runs with 41 RBIs and has scored 34 runs on the year. He was 0 for 2 with a walk and a strike out in the first meeting.

Key arms to watch:

Mario Leon – Redshirt junior – RHP – Leon is 3-2 on the year in 11 games (4.63 ERA) and has thrown 44.2 innings, allowing 53 hits, 30 runs, with 14 walks and has struck out 44 batters (.268 average against them). Leon went 6 innings in his start against USF, allowing 8 hits, 1 run, and struck out 8 batters.

Sterling Koerner – Senior – LHP – Koerner is 2-3 in 23 games with 10 saves, throwing 37 innings, allowing 58 hits, 29 runs, walking 4 and striking out 26 batters.

Key USF players to watch in this game: A key bat to watch for this game is Duke Stunkel (with Kevin Merrell out possibly again) who is batting .379 on the year with 15 RBIs and has hit 11 doubles. He was 7 for 13 in the series against Houston over the weekend, gaining AAC honor roll status after that effort. He is swinging a hot bat, but was 0 for 4 with 2 strike outs in the first meeting. A possible starter for the Bulls could be DJ Roberts who is 2-0 in 7 starts (3.16 ERA) and has struck out 36 batters in 39.2 innings of work.
