The Bulls, 22-7 (11-5) are the number 3 seed as they prepare to take on #6 SMU the second round of the AAC tournament. The game is scheduled to start on Saturday at 8 PM (ESPN 3).

USF barely beat SMU at 52 to 51 in their only regular season meeting.

USF is averaging 72.4 PPG while allowing 60.7 PPG to end the year. SMU, 17-13, is averaging 58.8 PPG while allowing 58.2 PPG entering the tournament. Here are some of the key SMU players to watch out for during this game.

Alicia Froling – 6’3″ – Junior – Forward – Froling is averaging 15.9 PPG entering this tournament, 10 RPG with 15 steals and has totaled 44 blocks. She had 13 points and 10 rebounds in the regular season meeting.

McKenzie Adams – 5’9″ – Redshirt junior – Guard – Adams is averaging 11.9 PPG (27 for 94 from 3-point range), 4.3 RPG with 30 steals on the year. Adams had 8 points and 4 assists in the first meeting.

Kiara Perry – 5’10” – Junior – Guard – Perry is averaging 6.9 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 2.6 APG with 48 steals and 17 blocks entering the tournament. Perry had 6 points and 5 rebounds in the regular season meeting.

The Bulls only beat SMU during the regular season thanks to a 28-point explosion by Kitija Laksa to keep them in the defensive struggle. I’d expect the two sides to battle it out again in a low scoring affair. USF has been off for a few days while SMU is fresh off a game, I could see the Bulls starting the game a little rusty.

The winner of this game will take on the winner of Houston vs. Temple on Sunday at 7:30 PM. Time to focus on the task at hand and take care of business against a team that the Bulls should win against.
