USF Softball: Bulls beat Ball State and Towson

The Bulls, 12-6, swept the second day of the Under Armour Tournament, beating Ball State 6 to 2 to start the day followed by a 9 to 3 win over Towson. It was a solid day for the Bulls in the field. 

In the first game against Ball State, USF won 6 to 2 to improve to 11-6. In the first, Ball State went ahead 1 to 0, but USF struck back fast. In the bottom of the inning, Brooke Hartman hit a 3-run home run to make it 3 to 1. In the 2nd, AnaMarie Bruni hit an RBI single followed by two more RBIs from Hartman to make it 6 to 1. In the top of the third, Ball State made it 6 to 2, but that would be it for the Cardinals in this game.

Kristen Wyckoff was 2 for 3 with a run scored and stole another base. She is 6 for 9 with 5 steals in the first 3 games of the tournament. Hartman went 2 for 3 overall with 5 RBIs.

Cheyenne Eggens (5-1) went 5 innings, allowing 8 hits, 2 runs, walking 2 batters. Hannah Parker went the final two innings, allowing 1 hit, 1 walk and struck out one to close out the game.

In the second game against Towson, the Bulls down 9 to 3. In the first inning, Sam Worrell hit a 2-run single to put USF ahead 2 to 0 to start the game. USF then made it 4 to 0 as two runs scored thanks to some throwing errors by Towson. In the 4th, Towson made it 4 to 2, but USF would come right back. In the 5th, Sam Worrell hit a 2-run shot to make it 6 to 2 followed by a 3-run blast by Cassidy Boyle to make it 9 to 2. Towson added a run in the 6th, but that would be it for them.

Sam Worrell was 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs in the game with 2 runs scored. Cassidy Boyle was 1 for 1 with that big home run. Wyckoff was 3 for 4 with a run scored and stole another base. In these first 4 games, she is 9 for 13 with 3 runs scored, 3 walks, 2 strike outs and has stolen 6 bases. Yeah, she is doing well at the lead off spot.

Hannah Parker went 6.1 innings, allowing 10 hits, 3 runs, walking 4 batters and struck out 2. Susan Wysocki got the last two outs to close out the game.

The Bulls return to Tampa to take on Villanova (game begins at 4 PM) in the final day of the tournament. Let’s try to get it done tomorrow and end the weekend with another big victory.
