The Bulls, 8-1, won 4 to 3 in 13 innings over Toledo in a game that seemed to take forever. The Bulls left a ton of runners on base in this game, but despite that, were able to keep the winning streak going.
In the first inning, the Bulls went ahead 2 to 0 after an RBI double by Luke Borders (Kevin Merrell scores) and then driven home by another RBI double from David Villar. In the top of the third, Toledo made it 2 to 1 and then made it 2 to 2 in the 4th.
In the bottom of the inning, Tyler Dietrich doubled in Joe Genord to make it 3 to 2. In the 7th, Toledo tied it at 3 to 3. USF had the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning with just one out but failed to get a run across.
The game would go into extra innings as USF loaded the bases in the 11th, but again could not get a run across. Overall, USF left 13 runners on base in this one. In the 13th, the Bulls loaded them again as Luke Borders drew a bases loaded walk to bring home Garrett Zech to win the game for the Bulls, 4 to 3.
Kevin Merrell was 1 for 3 with a run scored and stole a base to lead the Bulls in this game.
Phoenix Sanders went 6.1 innings, allowing 7 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk and struck out 9 batters in a solid start again for the Bulls. Joe Cavallaro went 4.2 innings, allowing 1 hit, 1 walk and struck out 6. Ryan Valdes (1-0) went the last 2 innings, allowing 1 hit and struck out 3 batters. Again, this bullpen is lights out right now for this team and that is exciting.
USF take on the Rockets again on Saturday at 6:30 PM as they look to keep the streak alive. Hopefully we won’t go extras once again because this was a long one for this game.
