USF Softball: Bulls head to Deland for the Stetson Tournament

Time for some road work.

The Bulls, 7-3,  are headed to Deland as they begin the Stetson Tournament. They will face Ole Miss on Friday at 6:30 PM, Colgate on Saturday at 1:30 PM, and then Ole Miss again on Sunday at 10 AM followed by host Stetson at 12:30 PM. 

Here are some break downs of all three teams the Bulls will be facing in this tournament.

Ole Miss – The Rebels are 7-2 entering this tournament (face Colgate first). They have a team batting average of .365 and have a staff ERA of 2.51 (holding opponents to .240 average at the plate).

Top hitters:

Dylinn Stancil – Freshman – INF – .455 average, 1 double, 1 home run, 9 RBIs, and has scored 7 runs.

Ashton Lampton – Sophomore – SS/3B – Batting .4232 with 3 doubles, 3 home runs, 10 RBIs, and has scored 10 runs.

Alyssa Gonzalez – Freshman – 1B – Batting .421 on the year with 2 doubles, 9 RBIs, and has scored 8 runs.

Top pitchers:

Morgan Bruce – Freshman – RHP – Bruce is 2-0 on the year (1.47 ERA) with 14.1 innings throw, allowing 11 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks and has struck out 9 batters.

Kaitlin Lee – Junior – RHP – Lee is 2-2 (2.29 ERA) and has thrown 18.1 innings, allowing 15 hits, 7 runs, walking 1 batter and has struck out 6 batters.

Colgate softball – Colgate is 1-3 on the year (they play Ole Miss twice and Stetson once before facing USF) and are batting .183 as a team. Their pitching staff has an ERA of 5.12 and are allowing opponents to bat .351 on the year.

Top batters to watch:

Holly Geranen – Senior – OF – Gernanen is batting .286 on the year with 1 double, 3 RBIs, and has scored a run.

Jordan Miller – Freshman – OF – Miller is batting .250 with a double and has 3 RBIs.

Katie Bushee – Senior – OF – Bushee is batting .231 with a double, a home run, 4 RBis, with 2 runs scored and is 3 for 4 in steal attempts.

Top pitchers to watch:

Kyle Griswold – Junior  – Griswold is 1-0 (4.50 ERA) and has thrown 9.1 innings (3 games), allowing 13 hits, 7 runs, walking 7 batters, and has struck out 5 batters.

Jessica Hay – Freshman – Hay is 0-1 (4.94 ERA) and has thrown 5.2 innings, allowing 10 hits, 5 runs, walking 2 batters and has struck out 2 batters.

Stetson softball – The Hatters are 9-1 entering this tournament (face two games against Oakland on Wednesday, followed by Colgate and Ole Miss before USF faces them). The Hatters are batting .317 as a team with a 3.29 ERA and are holding opponents to a .275 average against them.

Top batters to watch:

Kelsey Waters – Senior – OF – Waters is batting .433 with a triple, 6 RBIs, and has scored 10 runs on the year.

Blake Crews – Freshman – C/UTL – Crews is batting .379 with a double, 1 home run, 17 RBIs and has scored 4 runs.

Jessie Tenbroeck – Senior – 2B – Tenbroeck is batting .370 with a home run, 9 RBIs, has scored 14 runs and is 15 for 16 in steal attempts.

Top pitchers to watch:

Tori Perkins – Sophomore – RHP – Perkins is 6-1 (2.98 ERA) and has thrown 47 innings, allowing 54 hits, 25 runs, 5 walks, and has struck out 23 batters.

Brooke Hutto – Sophomore – RHP – Hutto is 2-0 (1.27 ERA) and has thrown 11 innings, allowing 11 hits, 2 runs, walking 6 and striking out 4 batters.

Let’s see what our Bulls can do on the road in this tough, short tournament. USF is starting to run on all cylinders even without Juli Weber out there (seriously, is she hurt or what?), so let’s hope they keep it going.
