It’s senior day for the baseball team as the regular season comes to an end. This senior group has played a lot of baseball over the years and with the new coaching staff in place, have laid out the foundation for the future of this program. Let’s thank them properly for the hard work they have put in over the past few years.

#24 Michael Clarkson – 6’1″ 212 lbs. – RHP – Oldsmar, FL (Dunedin HS)

CLarkson played in 6 games back n 2012 and went 1-0 with 8 innings of work and 3 strike outs. IN 2013 (Named Big East Academic First Team) and started 10 games (12 overall) and went 1-5 (4.14 ERA). In 2014 he missed the entire season after undergoing Tommy John Surgery. In 2015 (named AAC Academic First Team) and pitched in 4 games after working his way back into the rotation. This year, Clarkson has started 7 games (13 overall) and has gone 1-3 as he he became the week-day starter. He has thrown 49 innings, allowing 52 hits, 30 runs, 32 walks and has struck out 42 batters.

#15 Hayden Kelley – 6’2″ 208 lbs. – RHP – Tampa, FL (Miami Dade CC)

Kelley played in 34 games in 2014 (DH and OF) and batted .200 with a double, 5 RBIs, with 12 runs scored and was 2 for 3 in steal attempts (came over from Miami-Dade CC in 2013). In 2015, he played in 10 games as a key pinch runner, scoring 4 runs for the offense. This year, he has pitched a single inning, allowing just one hit.

#18 Luke Maglich – 6’2″ 195 lbs. – OF – Sarasota, FL (Riverview HS)

Maglich started his career back in 2013 when he played in 22 games, batting .289 with 2 doubles, a triple, and drove in 4 runs in limited time (but he would rise from that). In 2014 (AAC Academic First Team) he played in 54 games, batting .244 with 5 doubles, 3 triples, 2 home runs, and led the team with 30 RBIs that year. In 2015 (first team AAC Academic again) he played in all 61 games, batting .306 with 10 doubles, 8 home runs, with 38 RBIs and recorded 15 steals. This year, Maglich has batted .292 for the offense, totaling 12 doubles, 3 triples, 2 home runs, 22 RBIs, has scored 22 runs and has gone 23 for 26 in steal attempts, becoming a leader in the young batting order.

#42 Ryan Valdes – 5’10” 170 lbs. – Tampa, FL (State College of Florida)

In 2015, Valdes went 5-4 in 23 games (3.47 ERA) and threw 83 innings, allowing 80 hits, 41 runs, 39 walks and struck out 73 batters. This year he has pitched in just one game, going 3 innings, allowing a walk and struck out 3 batters. I must note he is a senior and I am not sure why he hasn’t thrown more this year (coach’s decision or injury). He is listed as a senior so he will be listed in this tribute post.

Thank you to the senior class for your hard work over the years to help lay down a foundation for the program as it continues to rebuild and grow into a powerful group that will be competing for years to come.

(Quick note, the 2016 stats do not reflect the Uconn series games)

Two more notes. Levi Borders is listed as a senior but he is getting the medical redshirt and will be back next year (unless he gets drafted).

Brad Labozzetta was listed in the USF handout for the series (per Nathan Bond of SBN) but according the roster is a redshirt junior so I am not sure if he is graduating or not this weekend. If he is, I apologize for not having a tribute listed for him. I thought he was back for another year, so please understand the listing.
