Luke Borders drove in 2 runs in USF’s loss to Uconn today.

The Bulls, 23-30 (8-15), fell 7 to 3 to the Uconn Huskies in the second game of the final 3-game regular season series. The Bulls were close late, but they could not answer the offense of the Huskies offense again in this game.

In the 4th, Uconn went up 2 to 0 and then extended it to 3 to 0 in the 6th and 4 to 0 in the 4th. In the bottom of the 4th, Luke Borders drove in a run on an RBI single to make it 4 to 1. In the 8th, it was 5 to 1 as the Huskies got a run back. However, Cameron Montgomery hit a solo home run and was followed by an RBI single from Borders again to make it 5 to 3. In the 9th though, the Huskies extended the lead to 7 to 3. The Bulls would be not able to muster a late inning comeback as they dropped their second straight game in this series.

Kevin Merrell was 1 for 4 and scored a run. Garrett Zech was 2 for 4. Luke Maglich was 2 for 4 and scored a run. Luke Borders was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs as he continues the late success in the year at the plate. Cameron Montgomery was 2 for 4 with a solo home run to cap off the offensive production for the USF offense.

Brandon Lawson (5-5) went 6 innings, allowing 10 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and struck out 6 batters. Andrew Perez went a third, allowing 2 hits, 1 run, and walked a batter. Mark Savarese went 1.2 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and struck out 1 batter. Dylan Burns came in for him, going 1 inning, allowing a hit, 2 runs, 2 walks and struck out 1 batter.

The two sides will wrap up the regular season on Saturday at 1 PM as USF tries to salvage a game late on senior day in the regular season finale.
