USF, 23-28 (8-13), begin the final three-game regular season series against Uconn (Thursday and Friday at 6:30 PM and Saturday at 1 PM). The Huskies, 30-22 (11-9) have won 6 in a row and will be a tough test to end the year on.

USF is batting .250 as a team and has a staff ERA of 4.20 (opponents are batting .245 against them). The Huskies are batting .268 as a team and have a 3.64 staff ERA (opponents are batting .240 against them).

Leading the Huskies at the plate is sophomore infielder Willy Yahn who is batting .318 with 16 doubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs, 34 RBIs and has scored 41 runs. Senior first baseman Bobby Melley is batting .283 with 14 doubles, 9 home runs, 46 RBIs, and has scored 45 runs on the year. Senior infielder Joe Deroche-Duffin is batting .266 with 12 doubles, 16 home runs (leads the team), has driven in 48 runs and has scored 40 more. Senior outfielder Jack Sundberg is batting .268 with 7 doubles, 3 triples, 5 home runs, has 24 RBIs, has scored 44 runs, and is 16 for 21 in steal attempts. The USF staff will once again be facing an order with both power and speed, making life tough for these three games.

The Uconn staff is led by junior LHP Anthony Kay who is 6-2 (2.46 ERA) and has thrown 91.1 innings, allowing 72 hits, 30 runs, 29 walks and has struck out 90 batters on the year. Sophomore RHP William Montgomerie is 4-3 (2.88 ERA) and has thrown 56.1 innings, allowing 48 hits, 20 runs, 22 walks and has struck out 72 batters. Closing out games is junior RHP Patrick Ruotolo who is 2-1 in 19 games with 7 saves and has thrown 27 innings, allowing 19 hits, 8 runs, 6 walks and has struck out 33 batters. Offense won’t come easy in this series. USF will need some bats to get hot again like we saw from Luke Borders and Kevin Merrell last weekend at ECU.

Time to wrap up the regular season and let’s do it with some victories!
