The Bulls, 22-28 (7-13), won 5 to 1 over the 21st ranked ECU Pirates in the second game of the three game series. Brandon Lawson (image above) went 8 strong innings in the solid road victory.
In the 6th, Garrett Zech hit an RBI single to make it 1 to 0 late in the game. In the 7th, ECU tied it up but the Bulls would answer in a big way in the top of the 9th. Luke Borders blasted a 3-run shot in the 9th to make it 4 to 1. Joe Genord would follow him with an RBI single to make it 5 to 1, adding an extra run to help tack onto the late lead.
Kevin Merrell was 1 for 4 overall in the game and scored a run. Zech was 1 for 3 with an RBI and scored a run. Luke Borders was 1 for 4 overall but that one hit was the big one in the game. Duke Stunkel was 1 for 4 and scored a run. It took the offense a while to get going, but they got it done as the team was able to pull off the road upset against a ranked team late in the year. I’ll take it.
Brandon Lawson went 8 innings in this game, allowing 3 hits, 1 run, 3 walks and struck out 6 batters (on 122 pitches). Lawson, along with some solid defense behind him, were able to shut down the ECU offense that had gone off on them the night before. Tommy Eveld went the final inning, allowing 2 hits, but struck out a batter and no damage done. It was a solid bounce back victory after the team was hammered the night before.
The two sides will finish the series on Sunday at 11 AM as they try to go for the series victory. It would be a lot of fun to pull it off late in the year, so why not go for it. Nothing to lose at this point!
