The Bulls, 44-13, won 4 to 1 over Houston today in the AAC conference tournament semifinals, advancing them to the finals on Saturday at noon. This was just another solid day of work for the ladies.
In the 2nd, Kristen Wyckoff reached on an error, allowing Mia Fung to score and put USF ahead 1 to 0. Astin Donovan drove in a run with an RBI single to extend the lead to 2 to 0. In the bottom of the 4th, USF loaded the bases with no outs but could not get a run home but Lee Ann Spivey picked them up with a solo home run in the 5th to put USF ahead 3 to 0. Lauren Evans followed her with a solo shot to make it 4 to 0 late. In the 6th, Houston scored one on an error to make it 4 to 1.
Kristen Wyckoff was 1 for 3 overall in the game. Astin Donovan was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Lee Ann Spivey was 1 for 2 with her home run and did draw a walk in the game. Lauren Evans was 1 for 3 as well with her solo blast. Mia Fung was 1 for 1, scored a run and drew 2 walks in the game. It was a low scoring battle, but the Bulls were able to jump out early in the game and give Erica Nunn an early lead allowing her to take over for the entire game.
Erica Nunn (27-9) went all 7 innings, allowing just 3 hits, 1 run (unearned), and struck out 9 (no walks). Nunn was in control of this game from start to finish and we should have expected that coming from the pitcher of the year in the conference. She was dominate again, leading the Bulls to the title game tomorrow.
The title game is Saturday at noon and USF will face the winner of the Tulsa vs. C. Florida game. Stay tuned for the latest.
