Austin Aikens is part of a loaded wide receiver unit that could be one of the deepest units in recent memory. What kind of impact can he make or can he even get on the field?
#88 Austin Aikens – 6′ 184 lbs. – Senior – Wide receiver – Tampa, FL (Plant HS) (Western Kentucky)
2015: Aikens played in 3 games last year but did not record a reception. He did not play in 2014 for the Bulls after coming over from Western Kentucky.
Recruiting history: Aikens went to Western Kentucky out of high school was a 3-star recruit (per Rivals). In his freshman season with WKU, he had 8 receptions for 217 yards and 2 touchdowns. After Coach Taggart left for USF, Aikens followed suit and joined the Bulls.
2016 Projection: Aikens showed some ability at WKU as a deep threat, but going into the 2016 season, the wide receiver unit is loaded for the Bulls and making it up the depth chart is going to be tough. He did not make the two deep coming out of the spring so he is looking at a big, uphill battle to see the field. He might see spot duty throughout the season and could make a splash on special teams as well, but I’m just not sure he becomes a go-to threat in the passing game. Hopefully he snags a few catches as a senior.
