Eric Mayes took a long road to get to USF, but he is here now and will be looking to make an impact this year up front? How big of a role will he have this season in the trenches.
#96 Eric Mayes – 6’4″ 240 lbs. – Sophomore – Defensive end – Sarasota, FL (Booker HS)
2015: Mayes did not play last year.
Recruiting history: Mayes was a 3-star recruit (per Rivals) back in 2013 but did not qualify for USF after committing to the Bulls. He went to Milford Academy (up in New York) before coming back to Tampa, but again, he had to sit out for the year. As I said, its been a long road for him to get to Tampa but he is good to go now and is eager to get back on the field.
2016 Projection: Mayes is an interesting player and while he was not on the spring depth chart, he is going to have an impact because of his size and his ability to rush the passer (was listed as a defensive tackle at Milford Academy so see that in mind). Now at 240 lbs. (was at 270 lbs. out of Milford because of the tackle position move), he is ideal for the end position and will push this fall for playing time. It will be really interesting to see what he can do this year given a chance to play for the first time for USF.
