The Bulls, 21-22 (6-8), won 5 to 4 over Central Florida tonight to take the series and get another step closer to .500 in a great walk off victory. It was a battle but USF got it done late.
In the first, the Bulls went up 2 to 0 on a 2-run home run from Luke Maglich to get it started. In the 2nd, Coco Montes hit an RBI single to make it 3 to 0 and was followed by another RBI single from Kevin Merrell (so glad he is back out there) to make it 4 to 0. In the third, C. Florida scored an unearned run to make it 4 to 1. They then made it 4 to 2 on an RBI single as they got the game closer. In the 4th, Central Florida tied the game at 4 to 4. The game went to the bottom of the 9th and Luke Maglich, after making a huge save in the 8th, came through with an RBI double to win the game for the good guys.
Kevin Merrell was 3 for 4 with an RBI, scored 2 runs and stole 3 bases (SO glad he is back). Luke Maglich was 3 for 5 with 3 RBIs in the game, saving the victory for the Bulls. Joe Genord was 3 for 4 and scored a run. Coco Montes was 1 for 3 with an RBI and scored a run.
Brandon Lawson went 7 strong innings, allowing 5 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk, and struck out 8 batters in a strong start. Brad Labozzetta went a third, allowing 1 hit and walked batters. Andrew Perez replaced him (1-4) and went 1.2 innings allowing just one walk and struck out one batter. The Bulls got it done, end of the story here.
The two sides will wrap up the series tomorrow at noon as USF looks for the sweep. Fingers crossed folks, fingers crossed.
