The Bulls, 18-20 (3-7) fell 5 to 1 to Houston tonight on the road. USF had the early lead in the game, but the Cougars defended their home turf as the Bulls fall to the bottom of the AAC standings.

In the 3rd, Houston went up 1 to 0 early in the game, but the Bulls would answer in the 4th on a Tyler Dietrich RBI single to make it 1 to 1. However in the bottom of the inning the Cougars retook the lead at 2 to 1. In the 6th, they extended the lead to 5 to 1 as they took control of this one. The Bulls just could not get anything going throughout the game as the Houston staff shut them down. It was frustrating as the Bulls dropped a game they had early on.

Luke Maglich was 1 for 4 with a steal as he batted leadoff (where is Luke Borders and Kevin Merrell?). Joe Genord was 2 for 4 and scored the only run for the Bulls. Tyler Dietrich was 2 for 4 overall in the game with the lone RBI for USF. The offense was just quite in this game and it cost them.

Phoenix Sanders went 5.1 innings in the start, allowing 11 hits, 5 runs, 1 walk and struck out 2 batters. It just wasn’t Sanders’s night in this one. Brad Labozzetta relieved him, going 2.2 innings in relief, allowing 3 hits, 1 walk and struck out 1 batter. The offense just could not get anything going to support Sanders tonight. He didn’t pitch that bad but when the team can only manage a run, the loss will happen.

The two sides will battle tomorrow at 7:30 PM in the second game of the series as USF looks to bounce back. Time to wake up this young offense and get going. If they can’t, it could be another long day for the Bulls.
