The Bulls, 40-11 (12-1), won 2 to 0 in a tough battle at the top of the AAC standings. The offense struck early and Erica Nunn and Susan Wysocki did the rest down the stretch. This was a solid victory.
In the 1st inning, the Bulls went up 1 to 0 on an RBI single from Kristen Wyckoff to get it scoring. Juli Weber then stole home on a double steal to make it 2 to 0. The Bulls and Golden Hurricanes would get runners on in the innings after the second, but neither side could not get a run across. Each side locked down both on defense and in the circle, however, the Bulls were able to hold up that early lead on their way to the victory.
Kristen Wyckoff was 1 for 3 and scored a run early in the game. Juli Weber was 1 for 3 and scored the other run for the offense. Nunn was 2 for 3 with an RBI and drew a walk in the game. She did it on offense and in the circle, seriously, she is quite the boss out there for the Bulls. Astin Donovan was 2 for 3 as well. The offense didn’t have a lot going despite getting runners on here and there late in the game, but it didn’t matter as the pitching did the rest to close out the game.
Erica Nunn (23-7) went 6.1 innings, allowing 2 hits, 3 walks, and struck out 4 batters. Nunn is just leading the world right now and we are lucky that she is on our side. Susan Wysocki went the final two thirds, walking a batter and striking out another. It was just a great day for the USF pitching staff.
The two sides will battle on Saturday at 3 PM in the second of the series. USF will try to keep it going tomorrow, but we should be ready for another low scoring battle between these two top teams.
