The Bulls, 39-11, fell 3 to 0 to the top ranked Florida Gators on the road in Gainesville. The two sides battled it out until the Gators were able to break out late in the game. Our ladies battled hard in this tough loss.
In the first, the Gators loaded the bases, but USF was able to escape trouble. In the 4th, the Bulls got Erica Nunn on base, but could not do anything else in that inning. In the 5th, the Gators broke through on a solo home run to go up 1 to 0. They followed that with a 2-run double to go ahead 3 to 0 late in the game. The Bulls could not answer late as the top rated Gators came through late despite the solid outing by the USF pitching.
Lauren Evans was 1 for 3 in the game. Erica Nunn was 1 for 3 and Astin Donovan was 1 for 2. The Bulls managed just 4 hits in the game against a pitching staff with a team ERA of .84. That is just an insane number for any team, but this is the best team in the country, so we should have known offense was going to be at a premium coming into this one.
Erica Nunn went 4.2 innings, allowing 5 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks, and has struck out 6 batters. Nunn pitched hard out there tonight. Susan Wysocki went 1.1 innings in relief of Nunn, allowing a hit and two walks, but no other runs came across.
The Bulls will hit the road for another big conference series in Tulsa. They will take on the Golden Hurricanes beginning on Friday at 6 PM. Time to shake this off, bounce back, and get back into the AAC battle that is very close right now.
