The Bulls, 18-19, won 6 to 2 over Bethune Cookman in a solid victory out of conference play. Michael Clarkson was dominate and the offense did just enough to get USF the victory as they work to get back to .500 on the year.
In the 1st, the Bulls went up 1 to 0 after Garrett Zech started it with a single, stole a base, and later scored on a sac fly to get USF on the board. In the 2nd, Chris Chatfield drove in another run to make it 2 to 0. In the third, BCU scored one to make it 2 to 1 early in the game. In the 7th, BCU made it 3 to 2 as they got closer. The Bulls did respond after a wild pitch that allowed Duke Stunkel to score to make it 4 to 2. With runners on, Joe Genord then hit a 2-run single to make it 6 to 2. That would be it for the offense as the Bulls did enough and the bullpen backed up Clarkson.
Chris Chatfield was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs in the game. Joe Genord was 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs, scored 2 runs, and drew a walk. Garrett Zech was 1 for 5 with a run scored and stole a base. Duke Stunkel was 1 for 2 with an RBI, a run scored and also drew a walk. Luke Maglich was 2 for 5.
Michael Clarkson (1-3) went 7 innings, allowing 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, and struck out 7 batters in a very solid start for the Bulls during the middle of the week. Andrew Perez worked a clean 8th inning, passing the ball over to Tommy Eveld to close down the game, striking out a batter in his solid relief appearance.
The Bulls will now hit the road again to begin a 3-game series at Houston starting on Friday night (game begins at 7:30 PM). Let’s see if this game sparks some momentum while hitting the road against one of the best teams in the AAC.
