The Bulls, 16-17, fell 7 to 5 to UNF as they dropped a tough game late after leading early in the game. Michael Clarkson allowed UNF to take the lead and the Bulls could not find a way to rally back after that.
In the 1st inning, David Villar drove in a run with an RBI single, putting USF ahead 1 to 0. In the 4th, Duke Stunkel hit a solo home run followed by a 3-run home run from Joe Genord pushing the lead to 5 to 0. In the 5th, UNF scored on a fielding error, making it 5 to 1 and was then followed by an RBI single to make it 5 to 2. UNF then hit a grand slam off of Michael Clarkson to take the lead at 6 to 5 (that’s not good). In the 7th, UNF added another late run to extend that lead to 7 to 5. That would be it as the Bulls failed to rally late.
Garrett Zech was 1 for 3 with 2 walks and stole a base. Duke Stunkel was 1 for 4 with the home run. Joe Genord was 3 for 4 overall with the 3-run home run. The Bulls just couldn’t get anything going late in the game after the lead was taken away from them. It was tough to watch.
Michael Clarkson (0-3) went 5 innings, allowing 7 hits, 6 runs, walked 4 batters, and struck out 2 batters. Clarkson was doing well until that one inning, that all it took. Andrew Perez went 2 innings, allowing just a walk and struck out 4 batters in solid relief. Dylan Burns went 2 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and struck out 2 batters. The bullpen did well for the Bulls but they just could not get anything going late to mount a comeback.
The Bulls will travel to Orlando for a three game series beginning on Friday (6:30 PM) to get back into conference play. Time to shake this one off, learn from it, and get back in the AAC race.
