The Bulls, 35-10 (7-1), won a close battle, 1 to 0, today over the UConn Huskies in another critical conference victory. The win helps the Bulls secure the series win and improve their winning streak to 4 games in a row now.
In the in the 3rd inning, Lee Ann Spivey hit a sac fly, allowing Juli Weber to score, 1 to 0. That would be it for the offense in the game for either side. Both sides had their chances here and there, but the defense shined for the Bulls. Early in the game, the Huskies loaded the bases, but USF got out of it. Later, Erica Nunn was able to turn a double play, ending another threat in the game. Pitching and defense were the key for this victory.
Juli Weber was 2 for 3 with a run scored in the game. Monica Santos was 1 for 2 and drew a walk. Lee Ann Spivey was 0 for 2 with the game deciding RBI. Lauren Evans was 1 for 3 overall in the game. Again, offense was not on show, instead defense and the arm of Erica Nunn who was dealing again in the circle.
Nunn (19-6) went all 7 innings, allowing 7 hits, allowing just 2 walks and struck out 11 batters. Nunn was been in boss mode for a while now and took care of business in this game. She was dominate once again and it was what the Bulls needed.
The two sides will square up on Sunday at 11 AM in the series finale as the Bulls look for the sweep. It could be another low scoring game as both sides battle for a critical conference victory.
