USF softball sweeps double header

The Bulls, 33-10 (5-1 in AAC), swept their double header today against Bethune Cookman, winning 5 to 0 in game one and then 11 to 0 (5 innings in the second game). USF just rolled tonight and it was fun to follow along. 

In the first game, the Bulls won 5 to 0 to improve to 32-10 overall. In the 1st inning, Monica Santos hit a sac fly to go ahead 1 to 0. In the 4th, the Bulls put the game away starting with loading the bases. Astin Donovan scored on a passed ball, Santos drove in another with another single, and Erica Nunn and Mia Fung added two more with an RBI double a piece. Kristen Wyckoff was 1 for 2, scored 2 runs, and stole 2 bases in the game. Monica Santos was 1 for 2 with 2 RBIs. Lee Ann Spivey was 1 for 3 and scored a run. Erica Nunn (17-6) went 7 innings, allowing just 3 hits, while striking out 5 batters. The Bulls got back in the win column in this first game.

In game two, the offense was clicking early as the Bulls went up 5 to 0 in the first inning. USF loaded the bases and Wyckoff was able to score after Fung drew another walk. Kassandra Moeller then hit a sac fly followed by an RBI double Lindsey Devitt and was followed by a 2-run single from Cassidy Boyle. In the 2nd, Wyckoff scored on a double steal and was followed by a RBI double from Sam Worrell to put USF ahead 7 to 0. Boyle then drove in another to make it 8 to 0. An error by Bethune Cookman allowed to more, making it 10 to 0 before the inning was over. In the third, Amber Donovan scored on a fielder’s choice, making it 11 to 0. Juli Weber was 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored and stole 2 bases. Wyckoff was 0 for 0 with 2 walks, scored 2 runs, and stole 2 bases. Sam Worrell was 2 for 2 with an RBI and scored 2 runs. Cassidy Boyle was 2 for 3 and drove in 3 runs. Susan Wysocki (10-3) went 3.2 innings, allowing 2 hits, and struck out 2 batters. Cheyenne Eggens recorded one out, Emily Gaitan recorded two outs, and Rachel Ionata got one out (everyone got involved late).

The Bulls will host Uconn on Friday to begin a 3-game series. Game one on Friday is slated for 4 PM, followed by Saturday at 4 PM, and 11 AM on Sunday morning. Momentum is back so let’s get back after it with league play returning this weekend.
