The Bulls 31-10 (5-1), fell 5 to 2, snapping their 23 game winning streak. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead and the offense just couldn’t muster enough to come back in this game.
In the 3rd, Houston went up 3 to 0 after a few base hits and an error, allowing them to take the early lead. In the bottom of the inning, Erica Nunn drove in the first USF run to make it 3 to 1. In the 5th, Lee Ann Spivey hit a solo home run to make it 3 to 2, but the Cougars added two runs in the 6th to push their lead out, proving too much for the USF offense that managed just 4 hits total in the game.
Kristen Wyckoff was 2 for 3 in the game, scored a run and stole a base. Lee Ann Spivey was 1 for 2 with her solo home run. Again, there were just 4 hits total for the offense in an off day where they just could not match up with the Cougars pitching. It was just not their day at the plate.
Nunn (16-6) went 5.1 innings, allowing 7 hits, 5 runs, 3 walks and struck out 5 batters. It wasn’t her best start, but it was still solid enough by Nunn. Susan Wysocki went 1.2 innings in relief, allowing 1 hit and a walk (solid work from her late in the game)
The Bulls take a break from league play as they host Bethune Cookman for two games on Wednesday (5 PM and 7:15 PM). Let’s hope they shake off this tough loss and get right back to work starting on Wednesday night.
