The Bulls, 29-9 (3-0), will put their 21 game winning streak on the line as they host Houston for a 3-game series (Friday at 6 PM, Saturday at 5 PM, and Sunday at 1 PM). The Cougars are 16-16 (1-2) on the year. They took two games against USF last year (first game of that series was rained out).
USF enters the game batting .339 as a team and has a staff ERA of 2.97 (opponents are batting .240 against them). The Cougars are batting .300 as a team and have a staff ERA of 3.88 (opponents are batting .284). The Cougars are a very solid team that will prove to be a tough test for our Bulls as they look to remain undefeated in conference play.
Houston is led at the plate by freshman outfielder Maya Thomas who is batting .343 with a home run, 8 RBIs, has scored 26 runs and is 9 for 11 in steals. Freshman outfielder Elise Lebouf who is batting .298 with 4 doubles, 4 home runs, with 23 RBIs and has scored 14 runs on the season. Senior infielder Courtney Klingler is batting .279 with 7 home runs (leads the team), with 15 RBIs and has scored 17 runs on the season. Erica Nunn and staff will have to be ready for this lineup that has a lot of power and speed in its power.
Leading the Houston staff (they use 5 pitchers, so we need to be aware about that) is senior LHP Julana Shrum who is 6-4 (2.80 ERA) who has thrown 58.1 innings, allowing 70 hits, 40 runs, 20 walks and has struck out 27 batters. Freshman RHP Presley Bell is 4-5 on the season (4.10 ERA) and has thrown 56.1 innings, allowing 54 hits, 44 runs, 31 walks and has struck out 30 batters. The USF offense will need get things started early in the game with Kristen Wyckoff and Juli Weber leading it off. If they can get going, the offense should be able to click for USF.
This is going to be a tough series for the Bulls. Can they keep the streak going? This will be tough.
