USF, 3-9, hits the road before Christmas to take on an old Big East foe in Seton Hall (game begins at 6:30 PM). The Pirates enter this game at 9-2 on the year and have won four in a row.
The Bulls are averaging 65.2 PPG (allowing 71.8 PPG) and 40.7 RPG (36.9 RPG against them). Seton Hall is averaging 74.5 PPG (allowing 64.4 PPG) and 39.3 RPG (allowing 34.4 RPG), making for a tough match-up for the Bulls in this game.
Seton Hall is led by sophomore guard Isaiah Whitehead (6’4″ 210 lbs.) who is averaging 15.6 PPG (21 for 63 from 3-point range), 3 RPG, has 39 assists (32 turnovers), 13 blocks, and 15 steals. Fellow sophomore guard Khadeen Carrington (6’3″ 180 lbs.) is averaging 14.2 PPG (16 for 41 from 3-point range), 2.5 RPG and has 13 steals on the season. Sophomore forward Desi Rodriguez (6’6″ 215 lbs.) is averaging 12.8 PPG, 4.8 RPG, and has 19 steals. Rounding out their top scorers is sophomore forward Angel Delgado (6’9″ 245 lbs.) who is averaging 9 PPG, 10 RPG, and has 11 blocks. Overall, they have a balanced team that can attack the paint and hit from long range, providing a long list of issues to tackle for the USF defense.
For the Bulls to pull off the upset, they will have to play perfect basketball, both on offense and defense. Key shooters like Jahmal McMurray who is averaging 13.3 PPG (shooting 30% from 3-point range) will have to spark the offense and lead them (McMurray is the only Bull averaging in double digits). If he or others like Chris Perry and Nehmias Morillo, are off in this game, then they won’t stand much of a chance. Everyone has to show up big in this game or it will be just another loss on the stat sheet.
