The Bulls, 3-8, are at home as they host 7-3 UAB (game begins at 7 PM). UAB is a very talented team, but the Bulls are coming off of a strong performance in their last outing. Let’s hope they are able to make it two in a row.
USF enters the game averaging 65 PPG (allowing 71.2 PPG) and 41.1 RPG (allowing 37.9 RPG). USF shot over 60% in their last win as they focused their game in the paint and hit their shots. UAB is averaging 73.4 PPG (allowing 66.2 PPG) and averaging 37.6 RPG (33.6 RPG). The Bulls need to attack the paint again in this game and control the boards if they want to pull off the upset.
Leading the Blazers is sophomore forward Chris Cokley (6’8″ 241 lbs.) who is averaging 16.3 PPG, 7.5 RPG, and has 9 blocks and 12 steals on the season. He is their big time force in the paint and will be the key match-up for Chris Perry, Jaleel Cousins, and Ruben Guerrero on both ends on the court. Senior guard Robert Brown (6’5″ 195 lbs.) is averaging 10.2 PPG (15 for 47 shooting from 3-point range), 3 RPG and has 8 steals on the season. Sophomore guard Nick Norton (5’10” 171 lbs.) is averaging 7.9 PPG (19 for 55 from 3-point range), 2.8 RPG, and leads the Blazers with 49 assists (just 9 turnovers) and 11 steals on the year. He will be the key match-up for Jahmal McMurray on defense to slow down the UAB offense.
McMurray will be a key for the Bulls in this game both on defense and on offense. He is the only player in double-digits on the season, averaging 13.2 PPG (31% from 3-point range) and 2.7 RPG. With Roddy Peters out, he will be the key to shoot the ball and also feeding the big men in the paint for the USF offense. If he can get Cousins, Perry, and Guerrero going and hit some long range shots, USF could stand a chance in this game. However, if UAB shuts him down, it could be a long night for the Bulls in this game.
