The Bulls, 3-2, fell to St. John’s on the road, 74 to 70. USF was down early, battled back, but just could not muster enough late in the game to get the victory. Courtney Williams led the way, but there were too many mistakes to overcome.
USF shot 39% (just 6 for 23 from 3-point range) for the game but SJU shot 52% from the field. USF won the rebounding battle 43 to 27 against the smaller SJU lineup, but the Bulls had 21 turnovers to 18 from SJU. It was sloppy at times and it ended up hurting USF in the end of the game.
Courtney Williams had 28 points (12 for 27 shooting) with 6 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. Alisia Jenkins had 9 points and 15 rebounds, but had 6 turnovers in the game. Laia Flores had 4 assists (3 turnovers) and 2 rebounds. Laura Ferreira had 10 points and 8 rebounds. Kitija Laksa had 7 points ( 2 for 8 from 3-point range) and 3 rebounds in the start. Shalethia Stringfield had 9 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds and 4 steals. Katelyn Weber had 4 points and 3 rebounds off the bench. The offense was there, but so were the mistakes and the inability to stop the SJU offense that was solid for the entire game.
Danaejah Grant led SJU with 27 points and 4 rebounds.
The Bulls will host Harvard on Thursday night (game begins at 7 PM). Thursday night is a must win for the Bulls. This loss hurts and with 2 losses in the column, they need to get the mistakes corrected quickly and get back in the win column. This loss hurts for the Bulls. They have to get it going again after this game.
