The Bulls, 2-1, are back home and set to take on Butler (1-1) in a key home game (game begins at 7 PM). USF fell short of their upset bid of 5th ranked Baylor on Thursday night and need to regroup against in this game.
Butler went 14-16 last year and has a very young roster, but if their is any kind of hangover, it could hurt the Bulls, at least at the start of the game. Coach Fernandez has to coach up this group to avoid a letdown.
Butler is led by senior guard Blaire Langloi s (5’8″) who is averaging 13 PPG, 4 RPG, has 3 APG (3.5 turnovers game) and 1 steal a game She averaged 11.2 PPG and is one of their big time scoring threats on their young roster. Freshman Brittany Ward (6’1″) is averaging 10 PPG, 10.5 RPG and 1.5 blocks per game. Joining her in the paint is fellow freshman forward Tori Schickel (6’1″) who has done a lot of damage off the bench, averaging 23 PPG and 14.5 RPG (scoring in bunches when called upon). She, along with Ward, will challenge Alisia Jenkins and company down in the paint. They have to box out and not allow Butler second chance points that can keep them in this game.
This is a game the Bulls should win but there is always the chance the hangover after a tough loss on the road last week could still be weighing on their minds. They have to be sharp, come out fast and put Butler away early and often. I think Coach Fernandez will have them ready and Courtney Williams will go off once again and take over from start to finish.
