The Bulls, 0-4, are trying to avoid history as they host Albany, 2-2, in the Sun Dome (game begins at 7 PM). USF has had a rough start to the season and it doesn’t get any easier with Albany.

USF is averaging 66.8 PPG (shooting 25% from 3-point range) while allowing 73.2 PPG. They are outrebounding opponents 44.8 to 38.2 thus far to start the year. Albany is averaging 77.2 PPG while allowing 65.8 RPG. They average 35.2 RPG while opponents average 33.2 RPG. USF should have the edge in the paint in this game.

Albany is led by senior guard Evan Singletary (6’1″ 195 lbs.) who is averaging a team leading 13.8 PPG, 2.2 RPG, 3.3 APG, and has 7 steals on the season. He is their big time scoring threat the Nehemias Morillo must lock down on defense. Senior guard Peter Hooley (6’4″ 200 lbs.) is averaging 13.3 PPG, 2.3 RPG and has 3 steals on the year. With his size, he is a match-up issue at the guard position. Senior guard Ray Sanders (6’4″ 210 lbs.) is averaging 8.8 PPG, 5 RGP and has 10 steals (leads the team) on the season. Rounding out their top contributors is junior forward Mike Rowley (6’8″ 230 lbs.) who is averaging 8 PPG, 6.3 RPG, and has 6 steals on the season.

Albany presents a match-up issue for the Bulls because they have a lot of size at the guard position while the Bulls have the advantage in the paint, so there are two different styles that will be battling out in this game. For USF to avoid history (0-5 is the worst start in the program history), they need to attack the basket again but also do better on defense, especially against the 3 that killed them in the last game. If they can’t defend the perimeter and hit their open shots, it could be another long night for the Bulls.
