The Bulls, 11-6-3, fell 2 to 1 in overtime today in the second round of the NCAA tournament. USF was the 14th seed in the tournament and got a first round bye to start, but came up just short in this game and the season is now over.
In the first half, the two sides were scoreless but the big story was the red card being issued to USF’s Lindo Mfeka, leaving the Bulls down a man for the rest of the game and it did affect them. In the second half, it was quiet until 16 minutes left to go when Boston College took the 1 to 0 lead and put the pressure on the Bulls who had struggled to get anything going on offense. With just 2 minutes left in the game, freshman Prosper Figbe was finally able to find the back of the net to tie the game at 1 to 1 and sent it into overtime. Just minutes into overtime though, BC won the game on the sudden death goal to end the USF season. USF just couldn’t get anything going on offense for the game, being out-shot 16 to 5 total in the game, coming away with just the last minute goal by Figbe. It just wasn’t meant to be for them in this game.
It was a solid season for the Bulls as they returned to the postseason, but they wanted more and we expected more from this talented group. I will have a full recap of their season later on after Thanksgiving, along with a recap of the women’s season as well. Corbett is now quiet as the offseason begins for the Bulls.
