The 19th ranked Bulls, 2-0, are on the road for the preseason WNIT and their next foe won’t be easy (game begins at 8 PM). USF has to head to Waco, Texas to take on the 5th ranked Baylor Bears in a huge early season battle. This game won’t be easy, Baylor is good.
Baylor is averaging 79 PPG while allowing 31 PPG, that’s a 48 PPG margin in their first two wins. On top of that, 8 of their players are 6′ or over, posing a huge problem for the Bulls on the edges and in the paint.
The Bears are led by junior forward Nina Davis (5’11”) who is averaging 14.5 PPG, 5 RPG and has 2 steals on the year (explosive guard). Redshirt junior guard Alexis Jones is averaging 12.5 PPG (4 for 10 from 3-point range), 3.5 RPG, has 7 assists (4 turnovers) and has 6 steals on the year. Jones can score, run the offense, and is tough on defense. Laia Flores and the other point guards have to be ready for her. Senior guard Niya Johnson (5’8″) is averaging 7.5 PPG, 6 RPG, has 10 assists (6 turnovers) and has 6 steals on the year. Along with Jones, Johnson can run the show too and combined, the two of them feed the big time players in the paint for the Bears, something the Bulls have to be prepared for.
The Bulls will need a monster game from Courtney Williams (averaging 30 PPG and 11.5 RPG) and a big game in the paint from Alisia Jenkins (12 PPG and 14 RPG). Over the years, teams with size have given the Bulls issues and they could be facing the same problem in this one. However, the Bulls do have more size inside the paint this season, so they should be up for the challenge in this game, but it is going to be a brutal test.
