The Bulls, 2-0, won 73 to 58 over Drexel to advance to the WNIT preseason semifinals. USF had a battle on their hands in this game, but were able to hold on late and did not look back in the final minutes of this game.
The Bulls shot 45% for the game while holding Drexel to 33% for the game (Dragons were good from 3-point range in this battle). USF also won the rebounding battle at 47 to 31. The Bulls had 10 turnovers in the game, which was down for the 17 they committed in the opener.
Courtney Williams led the way again with 26 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists (she is on another level). Alisia Jenkins stayed out of foul trouble and had 16 points, 21 rebounds, a block and a steal. Kitija Laksa had 7 points (1 for 4 from 3-point range) and added a rebound. Laia Flores (started again at point guard) had 4 assists, no turnovers, 3 rebounds and a steal (still no points for her yet). Laura Ferreira had 11 points and 9 rebounds while Maria Jespersen added 6 points and 2 assists. USF was in control for the game despite Drexel tying the game late and making it close late. Williams and Jenkins were once again too much for the opponent to overcome.
The Bulls will face the winner of the Baylor vs. Southern game in the WNIT preseason semifinals. No time or date have been set for that game, but rest assured, I’ll have the coverage for that game when its listed.
