The Bulls, 0-1, fell 82 to 77 in their season opener to Troy. After leading 49 to 44 at the half, the Bulls went cold from the field and could not rally late to come back. This loss is a bad one to start the year for USF.

For the game, the Bulls shot 36% compared to 41% for Troy. USF did shoot 41% for the first half, but they had a long cold spell in the second half that led to their demise. The Bulls were out-rebounded 49 to 50 in the game and committed 17 turnovers to just 9 for Troy. USF was also just 10 for 31 from 3-point range (32%) as the Bulls decided to take the long shots and came up empty for most of the second half of the game.

Chris Perry had 13 points, 17 rebounds, and 2 blocks in his return to real action. Jahmal McMurray went for 21 points and 3 rebounds in a solid freshman debut. Nehemias Morillo had 12 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks, and steals in the game. Angel Nunez had 18 points (16 in the first half) with 9 rebounds and 4 blocks in his USF regular season debut. Jaleel Cousins had 2 points and 2 rebounds, but had to deal with foul trouble for most of the game. Roddy Peters had 7 points and 4 assists (5 turnovers) off the bench. The Bulls did not have Luis Santos and Ruben Guerrero in the game due to injury and had to go with a short bench in the game.

The Bulls will try to regroup on Monday night as they take NJIT (game begins at 7 PM). Let’s hope they quiet relying on the 3, attack the paint with their size, and get a win and get back on track. This was just a bad night for this rebuilding program.
