USF WBB takes on Memphis

Coach Fernandez will need his team to get off to a better start against Memphis than they had against ECU.

The USF Bulls, 10-3 (1-0) take on Memphis today (game begins at 3 PM). The Tigers are 6-6 (0-1) after dropping their AAC opener to Temple, 58 to 57, in their last outing. They will be looking for the upset win on the road as they come to Tampa.

Memphis is led by junior guard Ariel Hearn (5’7″) who is averaging 16.4 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 2.8 APG and has 19 steals and 5 blocks on the year (heart of their offense, both scoring and assisting others). Redshirt sophomore guard Mooriah Rowser (5’9″) is averaging 11.7 PPG and 3.8 RPG. Junior forward Asianna Fuqua-Bey (6’1″) 8.9 PPG and 6.8 RPG. She also has 16 steals and 7 blocks on the year (tough match-up for Alisia Jenkins in the paint). Junior forward Brianna Wright (6’1″) is averaging 7.8 and 9.6 RPG. She will be another tough match-up for the Bulls both in the paint and on the low-post. Sophomore guard Taylor Williams (6’1″) is averaging 4.4 PPG and 1.3 RPG (guard with some height in the backcourt).

USF came out flat against ECU in the last game, struggling to get the offense going, and found themselves down early. They were able to rally and shake off the rust from the prolonged break (give ECU credit for their defense as well). The wake-up call from the ECU game should have the Bulls prepared for this game against the Tigers. USF went 2-0 against them last year and will try to make it 3 in a row as the Bulls look to add to their resume moving forward before the 2015 calendar year gets here.
