The Bulls improved to 11-3 (2-0) with a 72 to 39 win over Memphis. USF jumped out to a big lead in the first half and never looked back, getting contributions from everyone on the roster. This was a very impressive win for Coach Fernandez and company.
USF shot 50% for the entire game. They were 20 for 29 from the free throw line while the Tigers were just 3 for 4 as USF played the game out of foul trouble. USF also held the rebound margin at 51 to 28. USF did have more turnovers with 23 to just 16 for Memphis, something Coach Fernandez won’t be happy about. But with a win, there should be some smiles after this game.
Maria Jespersen had 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Laura Ferreira had 7 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. Laia Flores had 5 points. Courtney Williams had 9 points and 6 rebounds (snaps her streak of double digit scoring, but she didn’t have to do too much in this game). Alisia Jenkins had 4 points, 9 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 4 steals (defensive monster). Shalethia Stringfield had 8 points and 3 assists. Tamara Taylor had 9 points and 2 rebounds. Ariadna Pujol had 8 points and 3 rebounds. Katelyn Weber had 10 points and 7 rebounds in one of her better offensive games of the year in the paint.
USF will head to New Orleans to take on Tulane on Sunday at 5:30 PM in another big AAC match-up to start the 2015 season.
