USF MBB takes on Bowling Green

Posted: December 28, 2014 in Basketball

The Bulls return after the Christmas break to take on Bowling Green (game begins at 3 PM). USF is 6-6 on the year after snapping their 5-game losing streak last week. Bowling Green is 6-3 on the year. USF beat them last year in their home by a score to 75 to 61. They will be looking for revenge while USF will look to defend its own home.

Bowling Green is led by senior forward Richaun Holmes (6’8″ 245 lbs.) who is averaging 14 PPG, 9.1 RPG, and has 5 steals and 21 blocks on the year. He had 10 points and 7 rebounds in the game last year. Sophomore guard Zack Denny (6’2″ 184 lbs.) is averaging 9.8 PPG, 5.1 RPG, and has 16 steals on the year. He will be a tough match-up for the USF backcourt. Junior forward Spencer Parker (6’7″ 210 lbs.) is averaging 7.3 PPG, 3.4 RPG, and has 10 steals on the year. He had 11 points and 4 rebounds in the game last year. Junior guard David Joseph (6′ 187 lbs.) is averaging 4 PPG, 1.9 RPG, 3.8 APG, and has 7 steals. Senior guard Jehvon Clarke (6’1″ 183 lbs.) is averaging 9.3 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 2 APG, and has 7 steals on the year coming off the bench. He had 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assist last year and will be a tough match-up once again in this game.

USF was led by Corey Allen last time these two teams met up. He had 19 points and 7 rebounds in the game. Allen had 31 points in the losing effort to FSU. If he can put together another strong game, the offense should be able to get looks against Bowling Green in this game. Anthony Collins had 7 points, 2 rebounds, and 5 assists as well.

This is going to be a very interesting game for USF. The Bulls were able to snap their losing streak and put together an overall strong performance against SE Louisiana University in their last outing. Coach Antigua and his group put together their best game in weeks and will now be looking to build upon the win. If they can get a win here, it will help them before entering AAC play on Wednesday on the road. Let’s see which team takes the court in this one.
