The Bulls lost today, 79 to 70, to Bowling Green. The loss puts USF at 6-7 on the year, ending the non-conference portion of their schedule. USF has lost 6 of their last 7 as the young team continues to struggle for stretches.
USF shot 50% from the field overall, but went cold for long stretches. It is something that has haunted Coach Antigua and his young group as they continue to find more consistency on offense. The Bulls were also just 4 for 13 from 3-point range as the long range shooting issues continue. USF and BG both had 31 rebounds each and the Bulls committed 12 turnovers, compared to 9 for the Falcons.
Nehemias Morillo had 3 points and 4 rebounds (foul trouble all day for him). Anthony Collins had 20 points and 6 assists (3 turnovers), moving him into 5th all time in assists in the USF record books. Corey Allen Jr. had 17 points, 2 rebounds, and 5 assists. Chris Perry had 21 points, 11 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals in the loss. The big three (Allen, Perry, and Collins) carried the bulk of the scoring again for USF, but they need help. Ruben Guerrero, Jaleel Cousins, Bo Zeigler, Troy Holston, etc. all have to figure out the offense and help contribute. Coach Antigua needs more than these three to be the heart of the offense every single game.
USF will travel to face SMU on Wednesday afternoon (game begins at 5 PM) to begin AAC play. I hope the offense can find itself on the road and help the team wake up or the trip to Dallas could be a rough one.
