USF MBB takes on Southeastern Louisiana University

Posted: December 23, 2014 in Basketball

The Bulls are back in Tampa as they take on Southeastern Louisiana University (game begins at 1 PM). USF is 5-6 on the year and have lost 5 straight as they struggle into December. The Lions are 3-9 and might be a little fatigued after playing the night before in Orlando. Let’s see what USF will be facing in this game.

SLU is led by junior guard Zay Jackson (6′ 178 lbs.) who is averaging 15.7 PPG, 4 RPG, 4 APG and has 15 steals on the year. He is a scoring point guard threat that Anthony Collins will have to contend with in this game. Sophomore guard Joshua Filmore (6′ 175 lbs.) is averaging 13 PPG, 2.9 RPG and has 12 steals. Senior center Devonte Upson (6’9″ 205 lbs.) is averaging 10 PPG, 7.9 RPG and has 20 blocks on the year. Upson is a very active big man in the paint that will challenge the USF front court in this game. Junior guard Andrew Gillory (6’3″ 205 lbs.) is averaging 8.7 PPG, 3.7 RPG and has 11 steals on the year. Senior forward Onochie Ochie (6’6″ 210 lbs.) is averaging 6.7 PPG, 4.4 RPG and has 10 blocks on the year to round out their scoring threats.

This is a very important game for Coach Antigua and his young team. After a fast start to the year, the team has lost 5 straight and continues to look for answers. They are now hosting a team that just finished playing a night game and has a short turnaround and might be fatigued in this game. USF has been inconsistent on both ends during this losing streak, but this might be the game where they can turn it around and get issues sorted out. I would expect Corey Allen and Anthony Collins to control this game and hopefully help USF get a much needed victory.
