It took overtime, but USF was able to pick up a road victory (9-3) after beating Penn State 90 to 87. Fouls were an issue for both sides throughout the game, but thanks to the effort of Alisia Jenkins and Courtney Williams, USF returns back to Tampa, victorious.
USF shot 36% for the game and had the rebounding edge at 56 to 54. USF also kept the turnovers to just 9 as Penn State committed 14. USF did commit 28 fouls while the Nittany Lions had 30 fouls in a very closely called game. In the end though, USF came through with the win.
Courtney Williams had a monster game with 34 points (10 for 11 in free throw attempts) with 11 rebounds and 2 steals. Alisia Jenkins had 23 points (11 for 13 in free throws), 21 rebounds, 6 blocks and 2 steals. Jenkins battled 4 fouls for a majority of the 2nd half but came through in the clutch. Laura Ferreira (back in action off the bench) had 6 points and 8 rebounds. Shalethia Stringfield had 5 points and 2 assists. Maria Jespersen had 8 points and 4 rebounds. Tamara Taylor had 10 points to round out the scoring from the Bulls.
It wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win. USF will have a week off to rest and regroup before they open up AAC play with ECU coming to town on Sunday for a noon showdown.
