After a week off, the Bulls (6-3) will host the College of Charleston (0-7) at the Sun Dome (game begins at 2 PM). USF lost to the Cougars last year in Charleston by a score of 71 to 64 (Cougars went 19-15 last year, making it to the 3rd round of the WNIT). Coach Fernandez and his group will be looking for a little revenge in this game.
The College of Charleston is led by senior guard Erin Hall (5’8″) who is averaging 9.9 PPG, 3.7 RPG and has 12 steals on the year. She had 6 points in the win last year. Freshman guard Shiclasia Brown (5’5″) is averaging 6.3 PPG, 2.8 RPG, and has 24 assists (37 turnovers) along with 6 steals. She is their point guard, but has been turnover-prone this year, something USF has to take advantage of in this game. Senior forward Christy Hewatt (5’11”) is averaging 6.3 PPG, 6 RPG and has 2 blocks and 8 steals on the year. She had 6 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks in the win last year. For Alisia Jenkins, who was quiet in the last loss to SJU, she will have to raise her game against a solid shot blocker in the paint. Junior forward Jackie Luna-Castro (6’2″) is averaging 91. PPG, 6.3 RPG and has 7 blocks and 4 steals on the year. Sophomore forward Breanna Bolden (5’11”) is averaging 7.2 PPG, 6.2 RPG and has 18 steals on the year. She had 15 points and 5 rebounds in the win last year and is a player the Bulls have to keep quiet in this game.
USF dropped the game last year to the Cougars. Alisia Jenkins had 16 points and 17 rebounds in the game. Courtney Williams had 20 points and 11 rebounds as well. Shavontae Naylor added 10 points and 7 rebounds as well, but between the three of them, it just wasn’t enough on the road. USF is frustrated after this loss to SJU on last Sunday so I would expect Coach Fernandez to have his team prepare for this game and for the Bulls to come out fast in this one. Look for a very focused USF team in this game.
