The Bulls couldn’t overcome the foul trouble late as they fell to Alabama, 82 to 71, dropping their overall record to 5-2 on the year. USF kept it close for most of the game, but foul trouble force Coach Antigua to shuffle his rotation.
USF shot 47% overall from the floor for the game, but they were just 3 of 8 from the free throw line (37%). USF was outrebounded 28 to 24 and committed 15 turnovers during the game, adding to the list of mistakes that cost this young team down the stretch.
Anthony Collins was taken out of his game. He had just 2 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists (1 turnover), not factoring on the scoring side of things during the game. Corey Allen Jr. had 4 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals. His 4 fouls during the game took him to the bench for long stretches and took him out of the game. Nehemias Morillo had 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals, but he also had 4 fouls during the game. Chris Perry had 10 points and 4 rebounds but like Allen and Morillo, 4 fouls took him out of the game as well. Ruben Guerrero had 6 points and 2 rebounds off the bench. Bo Zeigler had 4 points, 2 rebounds and a steal as well.
Rodney Cooper had 20 points to lead Alabama. Ricky Tarrant had 17 points and 8 assists.
This was another learning moment for this young team. Fouls, turnovers, and bad free throw shooting are all lessons they can learn from and improve upon after this game. USF will get a chance to do this as they travel to face Detroit on Saturday at 3 PM.
