USF MBB falls to NC State in tough battle

Posted: November 23, 2014 in Uncategorized

USF fell to NC State 68 to 65, giving the Bulls their first loss of the year (3-1). USF had two players go down with injuries, Troy Holston and Dinero Mercurius, and did not have Ruben Guerrero again, but they still battled tough on the road.

USF shot 48% from the field in the game and had just 10 total turnovers. They were out-rebounded 33 to 40, something they have to work and improve on, but considering they battled foul trouble and had injuries, it was a very valiant effort from Coach Antigua and his young team.

Nehemias Morillo had 11 points and 7 rebounds. Chris Perry had 10 points and 5 rebounds before he fouled out. Anthony Collins had 8 points, 8 assists (2 turnovers) and had 4 rebounds. Corey Allen Jr. had 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists while dealing with foul trouble. Jaleel Cousins had 6 points but just 1 rebound and a block (has to get more aggressive and find his game inside the paint). Bo Zeigler had 9 points and 5 rebounds. Dinero Mercurius had 5 points and Holston had 2 points before they both went down with injury.

This team is still very young, inexperienced and now banged up a bit but man, they are fun to watch. The offense is clicking, defense is improving slowly, and they shoot all over and run. Its more energetic and Coach Antigua is just getting started with this program. The Bulls will return home to face Hofstra on Tuesday night (game begins at 7 PM) as they try to rebound after this game.
