The Bulls beat UAB in overtime, winning 73 to 71, improving their record to 3-0 to start the season. It took some late game heroics from Corey Allen Jr. and Anthony Collins, but they got it done and got the first road win of the year for Coach Antigua.
The Bulls shot 53% overall for the game and held the UAB to just 35% from the field. USF held the rebounding margin 42 to 34 despite no rebounds from center Jaleel Cousins during the game. The Bulls were just 9 for 17 from the free throw line (52%) something they will have to clean up moving forward, but at the end of the day, they won the game.
Chris Perry had 18 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks, but he did foul out late in the game. Nehemias Morillo had 9 points and 7 rebounds. Jaleel Cousins had 2 points and 3 blocks (no Ruben Guerrero again for this game, although he did travel with the team). Corey Allen had 7 points and 8 rebounds, including the game deciding layup at the end that put USF ahead for good. Anthony Collins had 10 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Troy Holston had 11 points and Bo Zeigler had 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 blocks before he fouled out as well.
It wasn’t pretty and there are issues to fix, but the Bulls got a road win and got a lot of contributions from both veterans and newcomers alike. USF will now head to NC State to take on the Wolfpack at 4 PM on Sunday.
