The Bulls fell to 8th ranked to Maryland 67 to 85 as they fell to 2-1 to start the year. USF dealt with injuries and continuous foul trouble as they had to dig deep into the bench to stay in this game. USF was able to hang close for most of the game, but fell late as Maryland continued to shoot over 50% for the game.
USF was down 33 to 50 at the half while shooting 37% from the floor to 58% compared by Maryland. USF finished the night shooting 39% while allowing the Terrapins to shoot 50%. They didn’t the get the rebounding battle won, losing it 33 to 40 but injuries to Katelyn Weber (toe) and foul trouble for Alisia Jenkins contributed to the struggles for the Bulls in the paint.
Courtney Williams led the way with 16 points (just 7 for 22 shooting) with 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal. Alisia Jenkins had 12 points and 5 rebounds but the foul trouble had her on the bench for a majority for the game. Laura Ferreira had 10 points with 3 rebounds. Shalethia Stringfield had 7 points. Maria Jespersen had 5 points and Ariadna Pujol had 6 points off of the bench. Katelyn Weber had 2 points and a rebound but was benched for the rest of the game due to her lingering toe injury.
The Bulls will finally return to Tampa on Saturday to take on UNC Asheville (game begins at 2 PM). Hopefully they will rest up a bit, learn from this game against the 8th ranked team in the country, and come back even stronger.
