It was announced this morning by Coach Taggart on 620 WDAE (reported by Joey Knight and from USF themselves) that freshman quarterback Quinton Flowers will be the new starter for the game against SMU on Saturday.
Flowers has been used sparingly this year, completing 2 out of 5 passes for 6 yards and 2 interceptions. He does have 7 carries for 36 yards as well. The coaching staff has been trying all year to get him more involved, but in his brief stints on the field, there has not been a lot of success. Flowers has been used primarily as a running threat each time he has taken the field, but now he will get a bigger stage to show off his skills.
Flowers is a gifted athlete that has both a strong arm and the wheels needed to be a consistent running threat. He has proven enough through the bye week to the coaching staff that he can run the show and now is in control. Flowers is now the 5th different starter to take the field since Coach Taggart took over the program. Let’s hope he has some success in his first career start.
