The Houston offense has a new man at quarterback. Sophomore wide receiver Greg Ward Jr. took over for the struggling John O’Korn and he brings a new balance to the offense. He can run well, so expect the zone-read and designed runs to help him move out of the pocket and create issues for the USF defense. Here is how the rest of the Houston offense looks against the USF defense as the Cougars come to Tampa.

Offensive line

At left tackle is junior Travis Cross (6’4″ 290 lbs.). Travis is a graduate transfer from Oklahoma State who started 2 games for them last year. Behind him is junior Damien Parris (6’6″ 290 lbs.). At left guard is junior Ben Dew (6’4″ 314 lbs.) who started 5 games last year. Behind him is junior Emeko Okafor (6’5″ 320 lbs.). At center is senior Bryce Redman (6’2″ 295 lbs.) who started all 13 games last year at center. Behind him is sophomore Mac Long (6’4″ 285 lbs.). At right guard is senior Rowdy Harper (6’5″ 295 lbs.). He started 13 games last year, making starts at left guard and even left tackle last year. Behind him is junior Carter Wall (6’4″ 295 lbs.). At right tackle is junior Alex Cooper (6’4″ 297 lbs.). Cooper played in 12 games last season as a blocking tight end but has moved over to the line this year. Behind him is redshirt freshman Josh Thomas (6’6″ 315 lbs.).

Quarterback

At quarterback is sophomore Greg Ward Jr. (5’11” 178 lbs.). Ward, a former wide receiver, took over and has not let the job go. He is 57 for 81 for 580 yards including 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. He has carried the ball 46 times for 192 yards and 2 touchdowns, making him a threat to run. Before he became a QB, he had 15 catches for 139 yards and a score (he’s taken over fulltime now). The back-up now and former starter is sophomore John O’Korn (6’4″ 220 lbs.). He has completed 89 out 172 pass attempts for 994 yards with 6 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. He has 32 carries for 18 yards and a score.

Backfield

At running back is junior Kenneth Farrow (5’10” 218 lbs.). He has 76 carries for 437 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also has 14 catches for 75 yards. Behind him is junior Ryan Jackson (5’10” 190 lbs.) who has 62 carries for 337 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also has 16 catches for 120 yards and 2 scores. At fullback is sophomore Tyler McCloskey (6’2″ 232 lbs.) who has 2 catches for 16 yards. Behind him is junior is Luke Stice (6′ 235 lbs.). The fullbacks are usually just for blocking down in goal line situations.

Behind him is senior Wayne Beadle (5’11” 183 lbs.) who has 7 catches for 48 yards.
