USF volleyball takes on ECU

Coach Draper and her squad will try to get back to .500 as they hit the road to take on ECU.

USF volleyball hits the road as they try to improve on their 8-9 (2-3) record. They will be facing off against ECU who is 8-5 on the year and 1-3 in the AAC. The game begins at 7 PM.

ECU is led by outside-hitter Sydney Darden (5’8″) who leads the Pirates with 142 kills, 16 assists, 11 service aces, and 127 digs on the year. Freshman outside-hitter Ashton Mares (6′) has 123 kills on the year with 15 service aces and 115 digs (gives them more height at the net over Darden). Junior defensive specialist Lauren Bewick (5’8″) has 125 digs, and 13 assists on the season. Senior setter Zarah Cecih (5’11”) has 57 kills, 426 assists (leads the team), and 87 digs to round out their squad.

USF struggled with their hitting percentage in their last loss to UCF on Wednesday night. Erin Fairs was held in check for most of the match and it hurt the overall attack of the Bulls. For this game, USF needs to have a much higher hitting percentage and dominate the game. Fairs, Dakota Hampton, and the rest of the team have to be smart with their hits and not allow the home crowd of ECU to affect them. It will be interesting to see how the Bulls bounce back after a tough loss in the last outing.
