Per Report: USF Football schedules Texas and BYU

Posted: September 29, 2014 in Football

Reports are saying USF will be facing Texas in the future.

Per reports – There are reports coming from various sources, the first coming from Brett McMurphy, that USF football has scheduled a 3-game series with the University of Texas and a home/home series with BYU.

USF also signed a home/home series with BYU, per reports.

This would put USF in Big 12 country in 2019 and then bring the Longhorns to Tampa in 2022. The BYU series would start in 2021 with the Cougars coming to Tampa and the Bulls traveling out to Provo in 2022.

AD Mark Harlan has said in the past few months that the Bulls were close to signing some deals, but were just waiting on some signatures. It appears the ink has dried and the deals are set.

USF had recently signed a home/home series with Syracuse and Northern Illinois University to bolster their non-conference schedule starting in 2015.  Here is the rest of the future non-conference schedules as they stand now:

2015 Schedule
Sept. 5 FLORIDA A&M TAMPA
Sept. 19 at Maryland College Park, Md.
Sept. 26 at Florida State Tallahassee, Fla.
Oct. 10  Syracuse  TAMPA
2016 Schedule
Sept. 3 TOWSON TAMPA
Sept. 10
Sept. 17 at Syracuse Syracuse, N.Y.
Sept. 24 FLORIDA STATE TAMPA
2017 Schedule
Sept. 2 STONY BROOK TAMPA
Sept. 9 ILLINOIS TAMPA
Sept. 16 WISCONSIN TAMPA
2018 Schedule
Sept. 1 ELON TAMPA
Sept. 15 at Illinois Champaign, Ill.

If the reports are true with Texas and BYU, it is huge for the future and strength of scheduling moving forward. With the new playoff system in place and the P5 conferences battling over the limited seats, the chances for schools outside of the P5 to get one of the playoff spots are slim at best. Schools from other conferences have to win their conferences but also need strong out of conference games to help their rankings and garner attention from the playoff selection committee. These games against Texas and BYU are huge opportunities for USF to get back on the national map. There is no official word yet from USF, but if all the reports are true, this is a huge signing by AD Mark Harlan and athletics.
