USF Volleyball takes on Pitt

Posted: September 19, 2014 in Volleyball

The Bulls, 4-5, are on the road again as they head to Pittsburgh to take part in the Pitt Panther Classic. USF will be facing off against host-team Pitt (8-1) to start the tournament (game begins at 7 PM).

The Bulls will be facing a very tough team in Pitt, an old Big East rival. Pitt was won 3 in a row and always defends their home court well. USF is 4-5 all time vs. Pitt and 1-1 against them under Coach Draper.

The Panthers are led by senior outside hitter Jessica Wynn who has 100 kills on the year (leads the team), with 16 assists, and 72 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Maria Genitsaridi has 73 kills, 10 service aces, and 65 digs on the year. Junior setter Jenna Jacobson has 152 assists on the year and 43 digs, playing a central part in their passing game. Senior setter Lindsey Zitzke has 168 assists, 9 service aces, and 64 digs, giving Pitt two impact players in the center of their offensive attacks. Pitt is a very good team and with Wynn and Genitsairid leading the way, the Bulls are in for a battle.

For the Bulls, they are used to hitting the road and facing off against some of the best teams in the NCAA. With Pitt, its just another day at the office for the ladies. Erin Fairs, Dakota Hampton, Natalia Soares, and crew will have to be at their best in this game to get the tournament started. If they can get a win here, it would set the tone for the Bulls moving forward in the tournament.
