USF WSoccer takes on Texas

Posted: September 14, 2014 in Soccer

The Bulls had their winning streak come to an end on Friday night after falling to South Carolina and putting them at 3-3-1. It won’t get any easier with Texas coming into Corbett (game slated to start at 11:30 AM). Texas suffered their first loss of the year to UCF on Friday night, putting them at 4-1-2 entering this game.

Texas is led by freshman forward Olivia Brook who has 5 goals on 13 shots to start the year with 2 assists. Senior defender Brooke Gilbert has 4 goals on just 5 shots, adding an offensive threat from the backline. Junior midfielder Chantale Campbell has 2 goals on 10 shots to begin the year. Sophomore forward Jasmine Hart has 1 goal on 14 shots and has 4 assists to round out the Texas offensive attack. USF got beaten pretty bad on defense in the last game, allowing 3 goals and making life hard on freshman Thordis Aikman. They will have to do a much better job and keep the ball out of the backfield.

In net for Texas is junior Abby Smith. Smith has allowed 6 goals on the year while making 26 stops. For the USF offense, they have to get it going but it won’t be easy with Smith in the net. Olivia Chance, Demi Stokes, and others were silenced in the last game and they have to be heard in this one. I would expect the Bulls to come back in this game with a lot of energy and take it right at Texas. This is a big game for the ladies and a game they need to bolster their resume at the early start of the season.
