Posted: September 12, 2014 in Volleyball

The Bulls hit the road to take on Winthrop to start the Active Ankle Challenge tournament in Auburn, Alabama. USF (2-4) takes on Winthrop (3-5) to start the tournament (game begins at 5 PM).

Winthrop is led by junior middle blocker Rachel Lenz who has 59 kills with 5 service aces, 16 digs, and 39 blocks on the year. Senior outside hitter Alina Sopizhuk has 88 kills with 8 assists and 66 digs on the year. Sophomore Emma Weakland has 85 kills and 23 digs on the year. Senior setter Jessie Vicic has 13 kills with a team high 263 assists and 57 digs to round out their rotation. This is a game where Erin Fairs and company need to get off to a strong start and not let up.

Winthrop is a very good team and has a lot of young talent on their roster. For the Bulls, this will be another tough test at the beginning of the year. Winthrop went 17-13 last year so they have had success in the past and will be trying to continue it in this game. The Bulls will play against Troy and Auburn after this game on Saturday afternoon. Let’s hope they can get the weekend started with a big road win.
